How To Remove Pilling From Clothes
To get started removing the pills from clothes you will need a few things. Obviously whatever garment you plan to remove the pilling from. Also, the items below.
- New Razor (no lotion or moisturizer on it)
- Or a fabric shaver
- Lint brush
I always recommend trying this out on a small area that is in an inconspicuous part of the garment.
You can see below the pills on my shirt.
Removing Pilling With A Razor
One of the easiest ways to remove pilling from clothes is by using a razor. You will need a brand new razor so it is very sharp.
You also want just a cheap, no-frills razor. Don't use one with a moisture strip or soap built-in.
To remove the pilling place the garment on a flat surface and hold the fabric firmly with one hand.
Use the other hand to gently shave over a small area removing the pilling. You will want to make sure you don't press too hard or else you could cut through the fabric.
If the clothes are completely covered with pilling I recommend working in small areas at a time.
You will want to make sure that the fabric stays flat in the area you are working and also make sure you are pulling the fabric taut to prevent it from bunching and getting cut.
Slowly work your way over the garment. You may need to pick the pills from the razor as you work.
Use a lint brush over the area once you are done working. This will help remove the rest of the pills.
Once you are finished going over the garment and you use the lint brush you are finished! I am always amazed by the difference it makes.
Follow the directions at the bottom of the article to avoid pilling on clothes in the future.
Removing Pilling With A Fabric Shaver
My favorite way to get remove pilling from clothes and sweaters is to use a fabric shaver.
You can find them fairly cheap on amazon and they will last for years. I have this little battery-operated one and it works great.
To use it you will want to lay the garment out on a flat surface. Then turn on the fabric shaver and gently run it over the clothes where the pilling is.
You will want to be careful with the amount of pressure you apply to the garment.
If you apply too little pressure you won't remove all of the pills. If you apply too much pressure you could cut the fabric.
Slowly take your time making sure you remove the pills without cutting the fabric.
Again like the razor method, you will want to work small areas at a time until you are finished.
Once you have finished then you can run a lint brush over the material to remove any loose pills on the clothes.
It only takes about 5-10 minutes to easily remove pills from clothes with this method.
To avoid problems in the future follow the directions below on avoiding pilling.
