Keeping a kitchen clean can be a lot of work. Most people are using their kitchens 2-3 times a day to cook meals. Plus, you have kids grabbing snacks and drinks throughout the day.

Get your kitchen looking sparkling and clean with these easy tips on how to clean a kitchen like a pro.
How to Deep Clean A Kitchen
There are two ways to deep clean a kitchen. You can either just tackle everything in one day or you can do a couple of tasks each week to make sure your kitchen is always clean.
If you would like to do a few tasks each week I highly recommend you check out the weekly cleaning schedule printable. You can print it and then every Tuesday when you clean the kitchen add in one of the larger tasks. It helps make cleaning easier and that way you don't get overwhelmed.
I sometimes do a little of both. Before the holidays or when I am spring cleaning, I will just clean the whole thing from top to bottom in a day.
However, most of the time I just complete one or two bigger tasks a week when I am deep cleaning the granite. You can do it whichever way works best for you.
Things You Will Need To Deep Clean The Kitchen
If you like to use store-bought cleaners you will need to have those on hand. If you prefer to clean things a little more naturally I recommend you have a few things.
Some of the best products to deep clean kitchen are:
- baking soda
- vinegar
- dish soap
- bleach
- microfiber cloths (I love this brand!)
- or papertowels
- glass spray
A Few Tips Before You Get Started
Before you get started deep cleaning your kitchen I have a few tips I recommend.
- work your way from the top of the kitchen to the bottom
- spend a few minutes tidying the kitchen before you start (put things away that don't belong in the kitchen)
- put on some fun music and light a candle to keep you inspired
- get all your cleaning supplies together before you get started
- make sure you have plenty of time so you don't feel rushed
- don't forget to dust your light fixtures or ceiling fans if you have them
Cleaning Kitchen Cabinets
Kitchen cabinets tend to get dirty fast. They get food and drinks spilled on them, grease spatters, and everyday dust and grime. They also accumulate so much dust on top.
If your kitchen cabinets don't go all the way to the ceiling grab a vacuum and a ladder and vacuum the tops off. I am always grossed out by how much cobwebs and dust is on them.
Next, clean your kitchen cabinets with warm soapy water. Add a few drops of dish soap (I love this dish soap) to a bucket of warm water.
Then use a sponge or microfiber cloth to wash the cabinets starting at the top and working your way down.
If you have any cabinets with grease you can see how to easily and safely remove grease from your kitchen cabinets here.
Deep Clean The Stove & Oven
Next, we are going to clean the oven. You probably use your oven almost every day if you are anything like me, yet only clean it every few months. It is important to do when you going to deep clean a kitchen.
So, we are going to clean the oven and stovetop. You can use the self-cleaning feature on your oven or you can clean it yourself.
Although cleaning the oven is always going to involve a little bit of scrubbing I have found a method that is easy and low scrub. You can see my easy low scrub method of cleaning the oven here.
If you need to clean in between the oven glass there is this great tutorial here on how to clean between the glass of your oven.
Clean the top of your stove and use a degreaser if necessary. If you have a gas stove you may need to really deep clean your stove burners. Check out this easy no-scrub way to clean stove burners.
Also depending on how dirty your oven is the oven racks may need to be cleaned too. Check out this simple no-scrub way to clean your oven racks.
Cleaning The Microwave
Next, I recommend moving on to clean your microwave. I have found the easiest way to clean the microwave is by boiling water and vinegar in the microwave.
Place a bowl with 1 cup water and 1 cup vinegar in the microwave for about 3-4 minutes. It will create a steam that will soften all the baked-on food. You can then just wipe the spills away.
The vinegar helps get rid of any funky smells in the microwave too. You can also use this tip to get rid of any burnt smells in the microwave.

Cleaning The Fridge
Next, we will tackle the fridge. My refrigerator seems to always be hiding last weeks’ leftovers in the back. I feel like getting the fridge clean is an important part of deep cleaning a kitchen.
I recommend taking out everything and cleaning all the shelves and drawers. Check the expiration date on the condiments and sauces while you are cleaning.
Not only will your fridge look better, but you will also probably find some old Tupperware you thought you lost.
If your ice dispenser is dirty you can see my tips for cleaning the water and ice dispenser.
Countertops and Backsplash
Cleaning your countertops and backsplash is pretty easy. I personally like to use dawn soap and a wet microfiber cloth to wipe both down.
Just get the microfiber cloth wet and add about 1/2 teaspoon dawn soap to the cloth. Scrub the countertop and backsplash with the cloth. This should really help break up any food or grease that is on them.
Once you have washed them down rinse the microfiber cloth and clean all of the soap off the countertop and backsplash.
When the countertops are dry you can spray them down with a countertop spray. I love this homemade granite spray. You can use it on granite or on Formica.
Sink
Once you have the countertops clean you can move on to the sink. Start by scrubbing down the sink.
I like to use this homemade sink cleaner to get my sink clean. It does a great job of getting the smaller surface scratches and stuck on food off the sink.
Next, I recommend filling the sink up with water and adding about 1/2 cup of bleach to it. Let the bleach water soak in the sink and then drain and wipe it down. The bleach will help clean and disinfect.
A few more areas you may want to clean around the sink are
- garbage disposal
- faucet (this trick works great for hard water)
Wipe Down Appliances
You will want to wipe down any appliances to clean them and get them looking shiny. I like to use my DIY granite cleaner on my appliances.
It not only makes look clean and shiny but it also helps kill off any germs. I have black appliances so the granite cleaner works well on them. If you happen to have stainless steel appliances you can use this tip for cleaning stainless steel. It works great and leaves your appliances free from fingerprints.
You can use this on just about any appliance including:
- fridge & freezer
- oven
- microwave
- toaster
- coffemaker
- mixers
Floors & Baseboards
Finish the kitchen by sweeping the floor and mopping the floor. It will get rid of any greasy floors and have your kitchen shining! You can use any kind of floor cleaner, but I love this homemade floor cleaner to mop my tile.
You will also want to spend a few minutes vacuuming your baseboards to get them free from dust. If your baseboards have much grease or grime on them you may want to use some hot soapy water and a microfiber cloth to really scrub them down.
