If you have been following my blog for long you know I really love cleaning. I truly enjoy finding easier ways to clean my house and fun little tips and tricks.
There are some things, like deep cleaning my kitchen, that I really look forward to. Dusting, however, is not one of those things.
If I don't watch it I have dust all over the house. With two dogs I also get a bunch of dog hair too. It makes for a pretty gross combination.
Luckily over the last year or two, I have found a few tricks that help reduce dust in my house.
If you are tired of all the dust and time spent dusting then check out these easy tips to reduce dust at home.
Easy Tips To Reduce Dust at Home
Change Your Furnace Filter
The easiest way to reduce dust at home is by changing your furnace filter often.
The furnace filter will remove dust and dirt from around the house. I am amazed at how dusty my house gets when I don't clean the filter on time.
Check your filters on your furnace to see how often they need to be cleaned. Then, set up a reminder on your calendar or on your phone to regularly change it.
If you really want to make sure to change it on time you can set up auto-renew on Amazon. Our filter needs to be changed every 3 months, so I have it set up so Amazon sends me a new one every 12 weeks.
Also, I have noticed a big difference between the basic filters and buying a nicer one. If you have pets you may want to buy one specifically for pets and dander.

Brush Your Pets
If you have pets in your house they can help contribute to extra dust and dander in the house. Plus, they leave fur everywhere!
Regular brushing of your pets can make a big difference in the amount of dust that accumulates around the house.
I will be the first to admit I am not good at brushing my dogs every day. However, during the summer I add that task to my son's chores and I notice a huge difference in the amount of dust and fur.
Take a few minutes every day to take your pets outside and give them a quick brush down. You will notice a big reduction of fur and dust in the house.
Clean Air Ducts and Reduce Dust
One of my favorite ways to reduce dust in the home is by cleaning the air ducts. Basically dust settles in your vents and then when the heat or air turn on you are circulating the dust around your home.
You don't need to call someone to clean the dust from your air ducts, you can easily do that yourself.
I just use a vacuum to vacuum in the air vents. Then I clean all the air vents with a damp microfiber cloth. You can check out these step by step instructions on how to clean air vents.
It only takes a small amount of time, but will really make a difference in air quality in your home.
Have Mats or Rugs at Entrances
One of the easiest ways to reduce dust around the house is by putting mats or rugs at the entrances to your house.
Every day we track in so much dirt and grime from walking around outside. When we get home then we just bring that all into the house.
You can put an inexpensive rug or mat near the main entrance your family uses to catch a lot of that dust. I am amazed at how quickly my rug gets dirty in my garage.
If you really want to help get rid of dust in your home you can make a no-shoes rule in your house. Plus, it helps eliminate spreading fecal matter and E coli.
Whether you stop wearing shoes or just add an inexpensive mat you can easily help reduce the dust in your home.
Toss Feather Dusters
If you still have those old-style feather dusters toss them to help reduce the dust in your home.
They will clean the dust off of the surfaces but the dust doesn't really cling to the dusters very well.
It tends to just spread the dust all-around your house and your floors. Instead of using a feather duster use a microfiber cloth which is meant to attract dust to it.
You can also get a dusting mitt. I love this one from Norwex. You just rub it together to charge it and then the dust is attracted to it. No more spreading dust around the house.
Wash Your Walls To Reduce Dust
Although it sounds kind of silly to clean and wash your walls, they are covered in dust. By taking a few minutes to clean the walls you can help reduce the amount of dust in your home.
If you are like me, you don't want to drag out a ladder just to clean the walls. No worries! You can easily clean your walls with a mop.
I love using my spin mop to clean the walls in my house. Just make sure you spin it a few times to remove the majority of the water. It makes cleaning the walls and removing dust a breeze.
Get An Air Purifier To Reduce Dust
If you are really wanting to eliminate dust in your home an air purifier is a great way to do it. They do require spending a little more money upfront but make a big impact.
If you have tried the other tips and still notice a lot of dust in your home you want to think about investing in one. Amazon is a great place to look because not only do they have them in a lot of different prices, but you can also read all of the reviews.
If you are really tired of all the dust in your home an air purifier may be the way to go!
You may not be able to completely eliminate dust from your life, but with these simple tips, you can reduce dust at home.
Spend less time dusting and more time doing what you love!
