Ingredients
To make the red hot applesauce recipe you will need a few things.
- Apples (about 10 medium-large apples will work)
- Water
- Brown Sugar
- Red Hots
Step by Step Instructions
Step 1: Wash and rinse the apples.
Step 2: Peel and core the apples.
Tip
I like to use a combo slicer/corer to cut and core the apples. It makes the job go faster.
Step 3: Remove the skin of the apple.
Step 4: Place the slices in the crockpot first.
Step 5: Next add a 1/2 cup of water, followed by a 1/2 cup of brown sugar.
Step 6: Place slow cooker on high heat for about 3 to 4 hours.
Note: Stir the applesauce mix every 30 minutes or so.
As it cooks the apples will slowly start to break down.
Step 6: After about 3 to 4 hours it will start to look like a very chunky applesauce.
Step 7: Stir in the red hots and turn to low heat. Allow to sit for about 15 minutes.
Step 8: You can either leave your applesauce really chunky or use a food processor to get it to the desired consistency.
We like our really smooth, so I placed it in a food processor.
