Real life organizing has been my favorite decluttering and organizing book ever! I picked up this book originally from the library and loved how helpful it was. This was the book that inspired me to become a certified organization specialist and create my decluttering challenge.
If you are looking for practical and affordable organizing tips this book is the book for you. Cassandra offers simple tips that work for just about anyone.
One of my favorite things about the book is how she talks about how everyone organizes differently. She breaks down different styles of organizing so you can find what works for you.
If you ever felt like you just can't get organized this book is for you!
The Clutter Connection
I loved the Real Life Organizing so much that I pre-ordered The Clutter Connection as soon as I saw it was coming out. It is basically a deep dive into the organizing styles that are talked about in Real Life Organizing.
I found that the first book really helped me get organized but I needed some extra help with my husband and son.
The Clutter Connection helped me break down the different organizing and decluttering styles so I could help my husband get organized too. My son loved hearing all about it and pretty quickly was on board for decluttering and organizing.
If you are already organized, but need help with a spouse or child I would recommend this book.

The Complete Book Of Home Organization
If you are already decluttered and fairly organized but want some help making your organizing look beautiful then I highly recommend The Complete Book of Home Organization. This book is full of Pinterest perfect organizing ideas and will look great on your bookshelf or coffee table.
You get an in-depth look at the author's home and tips for organizing any space. There are even some great tips for organizing the garage. If you need some extra help getting your home completely organized this will be a great book for you.
Note: If you are just getting started with decluttering and organizing I would skip this book.
The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up
The Life-Changing Magic Of Tidying Up is possibly the most popular book on decluttering and organizing. The book was released a couple of years ago and quickly became very popular. The Konmari method of decluttering and organizing uses the idea of decluttering categories, not rooms. The book teaches you to go through and find what sparks joy and keep that.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up is perfect for those who have a lot of decluttering to do. If you feel like your wardrobe or hobbies often spill over into multiple rooms this book is perfect for you.
Swedish Death Cleaning For Beginners
If your storage areas are overflowing and you don't know how to even start parting with some of your memories check out Swedish Death Cleaning For Beginners. This book has all the step-by-step processes you need to get started on the Swedish death cleaning. It's not a long book at only 76 pages but it's a great way to start if you think the Swedish death cleaning may be right for you.
So I read the books now where do I start?
Sometimes decluttering can be overwhelming. If you are trying to figure out where to start I recommend a few things.
- set a timer and declutter for 5 minutes
- choose a few small areas (not a room) and declutter an area a day
- use a decluttering checklist (you can print this one for free!)
