Inside: Does your home smell stale? Check out how to make this easy room refreshener spray. It only takes a few ingredients and you will love how good your room smells. Make up this DIY room refresher today.
I love a warm spring day when I can open up the windows and let some fresh air into our home.
Opening the windows just helps get rid of stale smells and lingering smells from breakfast. Bacon always smells great while making it, but later in the day it still remains.
But, since I can't always have the windows open I sometimes need more help to get rid of that day-old, greasy bacon smell.
So to help with the smell I made up a batch of DIY room refresher.
It's kind of like a Febreze, only without all the nasty chemicals. Plus, it is way cheaper to make than a can of Febreze.
This lemon and lavender room refresher will instantly make your house smell better and has a great smell that lasts too. Plus it helps get rid of stale odors in just about any room!
Homemade Room Refreshener
When making this room refreshener you can use just about any kind of essential oils. If you don't like the scents below just substitute one of your favorite smells.
That is what is so great about this recipe. You can custom make it to suit your needs.
Getting Started
You will need a few things to get started on making this room refreshener spray.
- spray bottle (I use these glass bottles from Amazon or these from Grove)
- rubbing alcohol
- lemon essential oil
- lavender essential oils
Mixing Everything Up
Measure out 2 cups of water and add to the spray bottle. Then, add in 2 ounces of rubbing alcohol.
Once you have added your water and rubbing alcohol then you can add in the essential oils.
Add around 10 drops lavender essential oil and 15 drops lemon essential oil (or whatever essential oils you prefer!).
Screw on the spray bottle top and shake well.
Using The Room Refresher
Make sure you have the spray bottle set to mist.
Spray into the room to add a fresh smell. The lemon smell comes out right away and the lavender seems to linger leaving a fresh smell in the room for hours.
You can also try other essential oil fragrances if you want to mix them up a little.
The room refresher makes a great bathroom spray for smells. This also works well in the car too!
To avoid irritation to pets and kids make sure you use an essential oil blend that won't bother them. My dog is prone to seizures so I avoid certain essential oils.
In just a few minutes time you can make an easy and fantastic smelling room refresher that will make your home smell great.

Citrus smells usually last a long time so consider using a lemon or orange essential oil to help the room refreshener spray really last.
Depending on the essential oil you use they should be safe for kids and pets. I recommend checking with your veterinarian if you are concerned.
Rubbing alcohol can help kill off germs and increase the smell of the essential oils. If you are concerned about using it you can leave it out.
The room refresher has a low enough alcohol level that you shouldn't have any problems with staining. However, I always recommend you spot test first on any furniture or surfaces.
