Inside: Trying to figure out the best way to wash bras? Check out these simple tips on how to wash delicates. Find out the best way to wash your delicates by hand and in the washing machine.
Recently I bought some new bras at Victoria's Secret. I love their bras but even when bought on a sale they aren't cheap. Because of the price I really try to take good care of them and make them last a long time.
One of the things I have started doing to really help my bras and delicates last longer is hand washing them. If you have underwire bras or silk delicates you can really extend the life by caring for them properly.
If you have ever wondered the proper way to wash a bra or how to wash delicates check out these tips.
To start you will want to fill up your sink or a small bucket with cool water. Then, add some laundry detergent that is gentle enough for delicates. I use Woolite for delicates on some clothes, but recently I have been using The Laundress Delicates Wash. I love the way that it makes my bras & delicates smell. It does a great job of getting out the oils and deodorant without damaging the fabric.
Once you have added the detergent swish around the water to evenly distribute the detergent. Then, add your delicates to the water. Gently move around the delicates until they are completely wet. Let them soak in the water for about 10-20 minutes depending on how dirty they are.
After letting them soak gently move them around some more. If you have a bra and it tends to get deodorant build up on it you can use a soft bristle toothbrush to gently scrub at the areas with the deodorant build up.
Drain the water and add fresh cool water to rinse the delicates. You will want to rinse them until the water runs clear. You may need to do this multiple times.
When they are properly rinsed then remove them from the water and lay them flat to dry on a dry towel. It is very important not to wring out the delicates because it could tear or damage the fabric. If they are very wet you can pat it dry with the towel and then let it air dry.
Once the delicates are completely dry then you can put them away.
With most of your delicates, you can put them in the washing machine on the gentle cycle. Doing so from time to time won't hurt, but I recommend hand washing most underwire bras or delicates. It's an easy way to help your delicates last longer.
