Inside: Save the taste of summer for all year! It's easy to freeze raspberries. Check out these simple tips on how to freeze raspberries.
Raspberries when they are perfectly ripe are the most delicious things. Unfortunately, most of the year they are overpriced and not at all ripe.
My son is a huge raspberry fan, so instead of overpaying for them all year long, I stock up on them when they are in season and freeze them.
How To Freeze Raspberries
Freezing raspberries is a simple process. With just a bit of work, you can enjoy the taste of fresh raspberries all year.
Ready to start freezing raspberries? Check out my favorite tips below.
Items Needed:
- Raspberries (in season and ripe are best)
- A tray that will fit in the freezer (I love this one from Amazon)
- Non-stick mat or wax paper (I use this Silpat Mat)
- Freezer Safe Bags or Containers (to store the raspberries in)
Step 1: Start by washing and cleaning the raspberries. I use this homemade produce wash. Make sure you remove any raspberries with bad spots.
Step 2: Allow them to air dry on a paper towel or kitchen towel.
Note: This is very important to keep them from growing bacteria in the freezer.
Step 3: Once they are dry, place them on a small tray or plate that will fit in your freezer. I have this Small Tray with a Silpat Mat that works perfectly in my freezer.
Note: As you place them on the tray, make sure they aren't touching. If they are touching then they will freeze to each other.
Step 4: Place the tray in the freezer for about 1 hour. This will allow the berries to freeze so they don't stick.
Step 5: After an hour remove the raspberries from the freezer and place them in a freezer-safe container. I like to use small snack bags to divide them up.

I then place all the snack bags in a large freezer-safe container that is marked with the date they were frozen.
When my son is ready for some raspberries, he can pull out a bag. He loves to eat them frozen!

How Long Are Frozen Raspberries Good?
Frozen raspberries will last for about 6 to 8 months in the freezer. After that time the taste may start to suffer a little. If they are older than a year I would recommend throwing them out.
How Do I Thaw The Raspberries?
I like to move them from the freezer to the refrigerator and let them thaw overnight. They will retain their shape and get less mushy this way.
If you are using them in smoothies I like to just toss them in frozen.
By purchasing the raspberries when they are on sale and freezing them we are not only saving money but can enjoy the raspberries when they taste the best.
Now that you know how to freeze raspberries the possibilities are endless. You can freeze almost any other fruit to enjoy too! Check out my favorite list of foods to freeze.

Raspberries are my favorite and these are excellent freezing tips. I actually enjoy eating them frozen especially if I just came in from the Texas heat. My goal is to plant a huge field of these berries.

My son would love a huge field! 🙂 He has been asking for a BrazelBerry bush.

Hi Julie!
This is a fantastic idea! I just had one question. Is this more for freezing raspberries for smoothies or to enjoy fresh? Do the raspberries become "mushy" at all when they dethaw??
I love raspberries, so this is such a great idea and they always are so expensive :(!!!

I try to make sure that the raspberries are all in good shape. I have found that helps to prevent "mushy" raspberries. We like to eat them partially dethawed, so they are never mushy. I hope that helps.
