If you haven't tried lemi shine before it is added along with dishwasher detergent to keep the dishwasher clean and the dishes free from hard water stains.
Homemade Lemi Shine
Since Lemi Shine does get kind of expensive I decided to come up with a cheaper alternative. I found out that the main ingredient in lemi shine is citric acid so I got to work making up a homemade lemi shine.
Not only does this homemade lemi shine work great it also smells great too. It will save you money and keep your dishes sparkling. So if you are dealing with hard water buildup in your dishwasher or on your dishes you will love this homemade dish detergent booster.
How It Works
Often your dishes and dishwasher get a chalky residue left behind after washing. This is limescale and calcium build-up that is from your water.
Citric acid can easily remove any limescale or mineral deposits from the dishes, glasses, and the dishwasher.
Because Citric acid is completely safe to use in cooking it is also safe to use on dishes and drinking glasses.
Ingredients Needed For Homemade Lemi Shine
You will need a few things to make this detergent booster. I usually buy everything I need from Amazon, but your local grocery store may have it too.
- Citric Acid (I buy small bags on Amazon)
- Lemon Essential Oil
- Food Processor
- Container for homemade lemi shine
Step by Step Instructions For Making The Cleaner
Step 1: Add 2 cups of the citric acid to the food processor.
Step 2: Then add about 10-15 drops of lemon essential oil.
Note
Citric acid helps fight limescale and hard water buildup on your dishes and lemon essential oil gets rid of greasy build up and helps with hard water. Plus, the lemon essential oil will help make the homemade lemi shine smell great!
Step 3: Once you have added the lemon essential oil pulse the food processor a few times or mix for about 5-10 seconds or until the essential oil is all mixed in.
You can see below the food processor helped mix in all the lemon essential oil without it getting clumpy.
Step 4: I recommend keeping it stored in an airtight container.
