Although I love summer and being at home with my kiddo my favorite season is actually fall. My husband and I got engaged in the fall and my son was born in fall. Beyond the happy memories I have of fall I love all the things that come with fall too. The leaves turning colors, the smell of a bonfire, and all of the fall foods.
I love soups in the slow cooker, roasting pumpkins, and yummy apple dishes. Caramel just seems to go along with everything fall. Caramel apples, caramel dip, caramel apple cider. It's just so delicious. I have found that some of the store bought caramel sauces are hit or miss. They almost seem kind of grainy. Making caramel can be time-consuming. So I love this simple and easy crockpot caramel. With only one ingredient and a little time, you can have some rich, delicious caramel.
To make this easy crockpot caramel you will need a can of sweetened condensed milk, a couple of canning jars, and a slow cooker. I haven't noticed a difference with different brands of the sweetened condensed milk so I usually buy what is cheapest.
Open the can of sweetened condensed milk and split it between two small canning jars. Screw the lids on the jars and make sure they are tight. Place the canning jars in the crockpot and then fill the crockpot with water. You will want to make sure the jars and the lids are covered with water.
Turn the crockpot on low and let cook for 8 hours. You will want to check the water level once or twice to make sure that the water level doesn't drop below the canning jars. You can add more water to the slow cooker if it does.
After 8 hours turn the crockpot off and allow the jars to cool a bit before removing them from the crockpot. The jars can sit on the counter until they are completely cool. Open up the jars, stir, and enjoy your amazing caramel.
This stuff is great with apples or pretzels. Or use it to make my favorite apple dip. You can store the caramel in the fridge for about 2 weeks. Trust me, ours always disappears faster than that. 😉

Glad you liked it! Thank you for letting me know about the longer cook time. My crock pot gets hot really quick so it is nice to know that some may take a little longer to cook!
