Instructions on How To Clean A Dirty Microwave

To clean a dirty microwave you will need a few things. Most likely you already have these things around the house.

What You Will Need To Clean The Microwave:

• bowl or container (needs to be microwave-safe)
• water
• vinegar (just plain white)
• microfiber cloth ( I love this brand of microfiber cloths)

Note: if you would like it is also nice to have lemon essential oils. I love this brand!

In about 10 minutes you can get the cooked on food off of your microwave walls and your microwave looking like new again.

Steam Clean The Microwave

Steam cleaning is a perfect way to get rid of all the grease and grime that has built up in your microwave.

To start, you will want to put a cup of vinegar and a cup of water in the microwave in a microwave-safe bowl or container.

If you would like to make your microwave smell better too you can also add a few drops of lemon essential oil to your water.

I use this brand of lemon essential oils in the kitchen. Lemon essential oils don't just make the microwave smell good.

They will also help degrease any greasy food you have that is cooked in the microwave.

Next, you will want to "cook" the vinegar water for about 3 to 4 minutes. Keep a close eye on the microwave while the vinegar water is cooking.

Once it finishes then let the microwave sit with the door closed for a minute or two.

Clean Out Microwave

Next, we are going to clean out the inside of the microwave. Be very careful because your water is very hot!

 After letting it sit for a few minutes, take a microfiber cloth and dip it in the vinegar-water mixture.

Wipe Down Microwave Walls

Start wiping down the walls of the microwave.

The warm vinegar water will quickly dissolve any baked-on food still left. Wipe down the whole inside of the microwave well.

Cleaning The Microwave Turntable

If your microwave turntable tray is very dirty you may want to remove it and wash it in the sink. I use hot water and dish soap to clean it.

Note: Often the microwave glass trays are dishwasher safe, so you can also wash them in the dishwasher.

Repeat if Necessary

If your microwave isn't very dirty giving it one good wipe down with warm vinegar water should get it clean.

However, if you have a really dirty microwave you may need to repeat the whole process again and let it steam clean.

Clean The Outside

After you are done cleaning the inside of the microwave take a few minutes and clean the outside down.

I like to use this all-purpose cleaner to wipe down the keypad, handles, and other areas.
