I love when I can make things from scratch for my family instead of buying them. But, I really love it when I can make something for my family and it doesn't take that much time. This slow cooker apple butter is so yummy and the slow cooker does all the work so you don't have too.
It only takes about 15-20 minutes to get the apples ready and then you can let them cook in the crock pot. Start with about 3 dozen apples. You will want to peel and core the apples. Slice them into pieces and put them in the slow cooker.
Add 2 teaspoons cinnamon, 2 cups sugar and 1/4 cup water to the slow cooker. Then cook on high for 1 hour. Stir well to mix up the apples and then turn down to low.
Let the apples cook for about 8 hours stirring every hour or two. After 8 hours uncover and allow to cook for 1 more hour. The apple butter should be a rich dark brown.
Spoon the apple butter into freezer safe jars or containers making sure to leave 1/2 inch room at the top of the container. Store for up to two months in the fridge or one year in the freezer.
Apple butter is delicious slathered on just about any kind of bread, muffin or biscuit. Enjoy a taste of fall all year long without all the work of canning.

Does it break down enough so that you don't have to blend it after it cooks? I love you recipe, but others all say blend it for smooth texture. Just wondering. Thank you
Julie says
Yes, I have found that mine breaks down and becomes very smooth. I just stir it up once it finishes cooking.
