DIY Stain Remover

I think the only thing worse than finding a stain in clothes is finding a stain after you washed the clothes.

I often find I have stains in clothes that have been through the washer and the dryer.

As a boy mom, I am often clothes that are so gross! Of course, my son lets them sit in his locker for weeks at a time and never mentions the stains.

Usually, my kiddo does his own laundry and I notice the stains when I am moving his clothes from the dryer to the laundry basket.

Getting a stain out after it's been washed can be tough, but this easy DIY stain remover works great and is so easy to use.

DIY Stain Remover

I have used this DIY stain remover for a couple of years and loved it. The best part about it is that you probably have everything in your house that you need to make it.

Ingredients Needed:

• Baking soda
• Hydrogen Peroxide
• Dish soap (I prefer Dawn blue dish detergent)
• Spray bottle (I love these from Amazon)
• Label (you don't need to label it, but I love these from etsy)

To start, you will need baking soda, hydrogen peroxide, and dish soap. You can use any kind of dish soap, however, this is one of my favorites. I have found it does a really good job to help get out oils and dairy stains.

In a bowl add 2 tablespoons baking soda, 2 tablespoons hydrogen peroxide, and 2 tablespoons dish soap. Mix it up and then add a little water.

I usually add about another 2 tablespoons of water, but it kind of depends on the consistency of your dish soap.

You can always add the water a little at a time until you get a good mix. You want to make sure it is thin enough that it will spray through a spray bottle or container, but you don't want the mix to be mostly water.

Next, pour the homemade stain remover into a spray bottle. I prefer to use these glass spray bottles that I get on amazon. You can also get a label on etsy for your bottle if you would like.

If you don't want to use a spray bottle you can also use a dish soap brush dispenser, like this one. I used one for years until mine started leaking. Then I switched to the spray bottle.

How To Use

If you have any other color than white, I recommend testing in a hidden area to make sure it doesn't discolor the garment. I haven't had any problems with this solution before, however, hydrogen peroxide can sometimes lighten colors.

To color test, just pick a small spot that is hidden and put on the homemade stain remover. Let sit for about 30 minutes and then rinse and let dry. If you don't see any discoloration you should be good to go!

Spray the DIY stain remover onto the stain. Depending on the material you may want to scrub at the stain a little.

I have this laundry brush that I use for scrubbing now and I love it.

Let the stain remover sit on the stain for about 15 minutes. For really tough stains I recommend letting it sit for about 1 hour. Then wash the items like you normally would.

Normally I recommend washing the garments in the warmest water possible.

I used the stain remover on this old set in stain. I made beignets and was covered in grease.

Then I forgot all about it and washed and dried the sweater. The stains completely came out. Check out this before and after. All the grease is gone and my sweater looks great!
