Inside: Don't throw out that leftover bottle of wine. Just follow these easy tips for freezing wine for cooking. Frozen wine is easy to store and use!
Ever have a bottle of wine that you just can't finish? Sometimes my husband and I can't drink a bottle of wine before it will go bad. Instead of throwing out the wine I just freeze it. Then when I need wine for cooking I can just grab some from the freezer. It is so much easier and cheaper than buying a bottle just for a single recipe. Check out these simple tips on freezing wine.
I start by putting the leftover wine in a measuring cup with a pour spout. If it isn't in an easy pour container I end up with wine everywhere. I may not cry over spilled milk, but I will cry over spilled wine. 😉
I then carefully pour the wine into the ice-cube trays. Make sure you leave a little room at the top.
Now you can pop your ice-cube tray in the freezer and wait for it to freeze. When the wine has completely frozen into cubes you can remove them and store them in a freezer safe bag or container. Although most alcohol won't freeze, most wine has a low enough alcohol content that it will freeze.
Next time you need a recipe that calls for wine you can just pull out a couple of ice cubes. No more throwing out a good bottle of wine. This also works great if you have a bottle of wine that you aren't crazy about. Sometimes I try a new bottle of wine, but the tannins are too much for me. I don't notice the tannins when I use the frozen wine in cooking. Like the idea of freezing wine? Check out these other foods you can freeze too!
What do you use your leftover wine for?

Wow! This is brilliant. I usually don't finish a bottle of wine either. I can't believe I never thought of this since I put other alchohols like vodka and liquers in the freezer all the time. Great idea! Thanks for sharing on Merry Monday.

This falls under the category of "why didn't I think of that?" (all that wasted wine!) Brilliant- Thanks for posting!

Wow!!! What a great idea! Sometimes I need to use white wine for cooking but all we drink is red. We put it in the fridge thinking we'll drink it anyway but it always ends up getting thrown away. I'm so glad I found your blog!

What's leftover wine? Lol. Also, if I have it in the freezer, what excuse is there to buy a whole bottle for a recipe (and then drink the rest of it after dinner)? Just kidding, this is a great idea, especially for bottles that we maybe don't love in a glass, but will work for cooking.

I don't know why I've never thought of this! It's so simple! I guess I just wasn't sure how they alcohol would do int he freezer. I always have some leftover wine that we just don't love as much as the other bottle and it gets old. Now I can use it without it just sitting out FOREVER! Found this on Frugal Friday! Thanks!

It works fine as long as your alcohol has a low alcohol content. Things like vodka or whiskey won't freeze, but wine works great. Thanks for stopping by!

What a great idea. I do this with chicken stock, but will definitely start with that little bit of left over wine. Thanks for sharing at the This Is How We Roll link party at Organized 31.
