A few years ago our family decided to adopt another dog. We decided that we would love to adopt either a rottweiler or a German Shepard. However, if you have ever adopted a pet you know that often they pick you instead of you picking them. We came home with a Chihuahua, not a rottweiler.
Because our dog is so small we need to make sure that he doesn't gain too much weight. Recently we took our dogs to the vet, only to find out not one, but two dogs were overweight. We have had a long winter, and the dogs have happily spend most of their time by the fire instead of being active. However, no matter what the weather is like, there is always ways you can keep your dog healthy and active. Check out these 7 ways to keep your dog active and healthy.
Play Fetch
Playing fetch with your dog is so easy to do and doesn't take a lot of time. We usually keep a few balls outside and throw the balls when we take them out. They have such a fantastic time chasing after the balls. Sometimes they even play keep away from each other.
Take a Walk
Most dogs love taking a walk. It's good exercise for the dogs and the owners. My dogs know the word walk and they get so excited when you ask them if you want to go on a walk. Even in the cooler months you and your dog can bundle up and go for a short walk.
Have a Play Date
Dogs like to socialize, too. Arrange a play date with another friend or family member. You can meet at a dog park for some fun, or even in your own backyard. Dogs love playing chase and interacting with other dogs.
Take a Hike
Dogs love the outdoors. Find a dog friendly trail near you and take your dog out for an adventure. It can be such a fun way for both you and your dog to exercise. Remember to pack some water for your furry friend so they can stay hydrated.
Make an Agility Course
It is easy to set up an agility course for your dogs. We use a tunnel from my son's play set, cones for the dogs to weave in and out, and a short jump. Just find a few things from your home that can double as an agility course. Your dogs will be having fun and staying healthy.
Hide and Seek
This is my big dogs favorite game. One of us will hide and then encourage the dog to find them. My dog always looks so proud of herself when she finds us. Offer your dog a small treat and praise when they find you and they will get the idea of the game in no time at all. The best part is you can play this indoors all year-long.
Feed Your Dog Natural and Wholesome Products
Staying active is just one part of keeping your dog healthy. You can also potentially keep your dog healthy by feeding them Purina® Beyond®. I love the fact that Purina® Beyond® dog food and treats are grain free and natural pet food and my dogs love the flavor. One of their favorites is the Purina® Beyond® Natural Pumpkin & Oatmeal Puree. It's easy to feed my dogs Purina® Beyond® all year-long.
I found the Purina® Beyond® Dog food and treats on an end cap in the pet department of my local Meijer.

It's so adorable to see the contrast in breeds you have! We only have one dog, and she is a toy breed, but we try to engage her with many of these activities to keep her active. She just loves to practice Hide N Seek! #client
